FOLLOWING the announcement of a reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, speculation moved swiftly to who would play the next incarnation of Peter Parker and his arachnid alter-ego.
Names mentioned predictably included Robert Pattinson, Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Cera, Taylor Lautner (who reportedly has met with the studio, though for which role is not known), Zac Efron and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who previously worked with new director Marc Webb in (500) Days of Summer), while Weeds star Hunter Parrish says he'd love the role.
However, as I reported earlier, the next film will see Peter Parker back in school and will have a cast of relative unknowns. 'Unknowns' means we are unlikely to see Twilight's Pattinson swinging from skyscrapers in red and blue spandex any time soon.
The latest name to be thrown into the rumour pot is David Henrie. Whether he is among the 'unknowns' isn't clear, but I'd never heard of him before.
A quick look at his credits shows the 20-year-old has had various TV roles in American shows, most recently in Wizards of Waverly Place and in How I Met Your Mother. So what does he have to say about all the Spider-speculation?
OK! magazine had the chance to speak with Henrie at the premiere of Legion and he said: "I am very blessed that the rumour is even going around and I am very happy about it! That would be a dream role for me.
"I think a month ago I saw something pop up on Google Alerts that said 'David Henrie Might be the next Spider-Man' and it's been spreading around ever since. I am just happy to read it.
"I love Tobey and I have been watching him forever so I would do whatever it takes to follow him in the role."
As for preparing for such a part, Henrie is already in great shape and adds: "Well I have been involved in martial arts for my whole life and I am very acrobatic, active, and athletic so I would continue to do a lot more of what I have been doing with mixed martial arts."
